EFAMA, the European fund and asset management association, has released new statistics in relation to the asset in European UCITS and AIFs respectively.

The January figures show an increase in inflows into European domiciled funds, rising to net inflows of EUR 29 billion, which is an increase in the EUR 23 billion recorded for December 2022. This led to total net assets of such funds increasing by 2.8% in January to EUR 19,674 billion.

However, the situation differs between UCITS and AIFs, as well as between money market funds and other categories of funds. AIFs registered net outflows of EUR 14 billion in the period, compared to net inflows of EUR 7 billion in December 2022. Much of this outflow was associated with hedge funds. On the other hand UCITS showed a strong performance in January, with net inflows of EUR 43 billion. This was a significant increase compared to the EUR 16 billion experienced in December 2022. However, while UCITS excluding money market funds registered net sales of EUR 54 billion, up from EUR 19 billion in December 2022, UCITS money market funds experienced net outflows of EUR 12 billion.
